Greetings from the Philippines! I stumbled upon this while searching for familiar names under tnhs'70. This is an opportunity to say hello to kababayans, former classmates, friends (and of course, familiar names - Doris Delizo, Cip
Pastor, Arlene Santos (hi!), Noel & Jessie Goltiao, etc. You know, a handful from batch '70 based in Manila occasionally take time off to organize a get together party (a way of keeping in touch). The recent one was in December 2005,
at my place. However, instead of increasing, the number of attendees seem to have dwindled; well, it seems that even in the Philippines,  spare time for relaxation is beginning to be expensive and elusive. So far, a better  way of keeping in touch is through this medium. Congratulations, Eddong, for this well designed page - really meant to keep each and everyone connected. Happy New Year to all!!! Happy New Year!

I wanted to take this opportunity to correct myself. I had originally signed the guestbook mentioning that I was the daughter of Ano Tampoya who was the first president of the San Nicolas Association of Ontario. As it turns out, my dad was actually the second president to preside. The first president was Mr. Rene Bedana. Sorry for the confusion and my apologies to Tito Rene!

Once again if you wish to contact my dad, Ano Tampoya, you can do so through my email address.

It's really good to see this kind of site. especially one promoting our town.

well, i didn't really grew up in san nicolas, however, part of my growing up was spending my bakasyon's in lungao, yearly with my cousins. i can still remember when after each 'padanom' when we get to catch "curiats" to eat, to swim at the "carayan" and catch bunog, or just enjoy the almost-always festive atmosphere in the neighborhood especially during sunsets. i really missed those days, when after one rainy day, our lolo, we fondly call him amang, gets to tap bamboo saps for his energy local drink, and giving us half, distributing evenly to us, cousins. while our inang, who used to sell freshly picked string beans at the market would bring us her pasalubongs when she gets home, usually kankanens like rice cakes. our amang would not take his lunch without our inang. i can still remember when we call our amang, "amang manganen!" and he would reply like "umuna kayon, urayek pay ni inang yo." he usually keeps himself busy like making baskets from kawayan.

boy, those were my choldhood days in lungao, and missed them a lot, really.

I am appealing to all our Kailians in Metro Chicago to please join the newly organized UNITED INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF PANGASINAN. As my friend and Kailian Gorio said, four of our kailians were elected officers. Now that is a big plus for our town and we can do better than that if we are all united and join the organization. On your ULR type Pangasinan.org and you will see a big sign that says UNITED INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF PANGASINAN put you curssor on top of it and left click. When you're done signing stop by at San Nicolas message board and say a few words for everybody. and if you feel even bolder go to the main message board and type your heart out . Let us show everybody that San Nicolanians are united. Come and join us now. your membership is waiting and free and very simple. Thanks. I see you there at Pangasinan.org.

Someone asked me, what is " INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF PANGASINAN ASSOCIATIONS " ? Literally, as the name implies it is a union of organizations of all Pangasinan associations through out the world. No, this will not be another Pangasinan association but it will be the " mother of all Pangasinan organizations ". And who are the members? The members are the associations themselves, for example " Pangasinan Association of Toronto, San Nicolas Association of Juneau, Alaska, Tayug Association of Southern California, Tayug Association of Texas, Pangasinan Association of London, Australia, Manila , Middle East, etc., etc." As soon as your local organization becomes a member all your constituents will become members automatically. And soon as we agreed to form an alliance then that will be the time to hold a convention to elect the officers, make bylaws, constitution, mission goals and etc..And as soon as Manong Fernand is done with the chat room and everything we will have a provincial cyber meeting ( the very first of its kind). It will be very much appreciated if we can invite the governor elect of Pangasinan to participate in the meeting. And perhaps in the induction of officers we can invite the governor to be the guest speaker. Well, what do you think? That's why we have to do this right. Slowly but sure. Anyone who wants to share , you are welcome to share us your thoughts and ideas on this matter.Your opinion is important so don't hesitate my friend. Just think what we can do if we are all united . . . . endless possibilities . TRY TO IMAGINE WHAT WE CAN DO IF WE ARE UNITED. IMAGINE

FLORENTINO ACOSTA [6/8/04, 2:51 PM] writes:
We are trying to organize all the Pangasinan Associations of North america. So I'm calling the attention of all Pangasinan.org regular contributors and new comers. Well, everybody is having reunions and get together but us. So many organizations but not one united Pangasinan Front in the entire continent of North America. I would like to meet all of you in person if I can. I have talked to other people and they argeed to have a get together to form an alliance. This will be an organization to unite all the organizations around the US and Canada and every where else. Just think of the possibilities if we are all united, just think how much we can do to help our province. How about this for a name " INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF PANGASINAN ASSOCIATIONS " . I think this is a great idea to unite all the Pangasinan organizations . I'm calling the attention of all the presidents and officers of all the Pangasian associations here in North America to include this in your agenda on your next organizational meeting. Think about it. We have a year to decide on this. Take your time but hurry up. Email me or the webmaster for your opinion. I will post this message again in about a month to follow up. Thank you. Florentino Acosta of Juneau, Alaska.

My Fellow San Nicolanians,

As we celebrate the christmas season and enter into a new threshold year, let us pause ourselves and evaluate the fundamental concept of humanity in which morality came from. Morality is the precept of unity- it is the convergence of feeling of respect and conscience as one family. This was the kind of belief that prevailed in my brain before I left San Nicolas 17 years ago. Now, our town is under the rule of materialistic environment wherein money and power subdued the basic moral fibre of the family. How could that it be! The basic premise is that the failure of the elders to mold and to educate the young people to act and to think in accordance with the highest moral standard of humanity impliedly it creates corrupt and selfish mind. And if we allow to persist this line of realm of comprehension,we can not regain of what we had. Let it be known that during 60's,70's and 80's San Nicolas was one of the most respected town of Pangasinan. Our fellow Pangasinanese look at our town as the most peaceful and loving town. It is logical to reflect on this subject on this ambivalent period in view of the current manifestation of divisiveness among San Nicolanians. Let us set aside our ill-feeling to anyone on this Christmas and look forward for a Happy New Year. Let us make San Nicolas a better place to live in.

It is very informative site and exceptional undertaking. Mrs. Tamondong used to be my teacher in grade 3 at San Nicolas Elem. School. You must be the little boy who often visits our classroom during recess. Those are the good old days.

Some of your guest's last name sounds familiar to me. I grew up in Barrio Casaratan which is a farming community. And in the 70's I enlisted in the US Navy at Subic Bay. Several times I came to visit our hometown when I was on board the west coast carriers, the Ranger and Enterprise. Perhaps my last visit was way back in 1982 during my tour of duty at NAS Cubi Point, Bataan,RP. Honestly, I miss our hometown especially Ambayoan River.

Amin nga taga San Nicolas

At this juncture, it is now a moment for me to reflect the fundamental concept of sharing of thoughtfulness in wishing you a Merry "X' Mas and Happy New Year. Being a traditional San Nicolanians, it has always been my profound belief; notwithstanding of our ideoligical, political and religious preferences, we intend to unite for a common good. And our visions for San Nicolas are guided by moral persuasion and consciousness and not by personal aggrandizement. Let us preserve the dignity and integrity of our town. Don't exploit its immaculate image for any illogical end. Let us peruse the merits and principles that anchor its foundational context as the best town of Pangasinan.

Greetings to all the good and gentle people of San Nicolas, Pangasinan! I thoroughly enjoyed visiting this website, which I found while surfing the Internet, devoted to the town where I spent my indelibly pleasant and memorable boyhood years. The article by Mr. Pedronio O. Ramos in particular is very enlightening. Let me add that in the academic field, San Nicolas contributed one of her sons, Dr. Juan R. Francisco, toward the scholarly excellence of the University of the Philippines. Dr. Francisco distinguished himself as a scholar, professor and author in the field of Indology and earned in Ph.D. from the University of Madras in India. My parents, Rev. Francisco F. Bauzon and Mrs. Julita E. Bauzon, served in the United Methodist Church (UMC) of San Nicolas during the Second World War and then in 1950-1956. I have a fond memory of the overflowing love of the San Nicolas UMC members toward my parents and toward me and my sister Evelyn and younger brothers Marvin and Kenneth. The members of the San Nicolas UMC and other kindhearted townspeople took care of and protected us during the war years in particular, for which we are forever grateful. I attended and graduated from the San Nicolas Central Elementary School (1950-1956). While there I vividly recall selling "pan de sal" as a little boy walking to and from such villages like San Jose, Santa Maria, San Roque, and others. I enjoyed swimming in the Ambayoan River, searching for spiders in the "damortis" trees along the "carayan," and even participating in the "tagnawa" custom of harvesting mongo! Presently, I am a foreign professor in the Graduate School of Area Studies of the University of Tsukuba, one of the Top Ten national institutions of higher learning in Japan which has engendered and produced Nobel Prize winners in physics and chemistry. I like to re-establish contact with my childhood friends and classmates in the San Nicolas Central Elementary School. Please feel free to e-mail me. Thank you and with all my best wishes always to the people of San Nicolas. Shine where you are!
